3) How quickly can my child learn to swim? How many sessions are required to learn to swim?
This is a very common question and the answer depends on each individual child. There are several aspects to consider:
- The time it takes a child to learn to swim varies based on a number of factors such as age, pre-existing fear, previous experience in the water, etc.
- The time or number of sessions required depends on the specific objectives of each family.
- Our first course is focused on accomplishing the following:
a) Learning not to go in the water alone
b) Learning to fall in the water, turning around and reaching for the wall
c) Learning that upon getting tired or running out of air, one can flip over, float and breathe.
This course can generally be accomplished in approximately 10 sessions, but the results vary for each child and are not guaranteed, as we prefer to follow the pace that best suits each kid. - In our second course the objectives are:
a) Leaning to swim while fully clothed
b) Learning various forms of gaining distance in the water (frog style, mermaid/dolphin style, modified back and free styles, etc)
c) Learning to go deep into the water, touching the bottom of the pool and retrieving an object placed on the pool’s floor.
d) Learning to use some basic flotation devices such as pool noodles, swimming boards, etc.
e) Learning basic boating skills (getting into and out of kayak). These objectives can generally be accomplished within 10 sessions especially if a child has already completed the first course with us. But we can provide a more precise assessment upon our first meeting.
4) Have you taught anyone to swim in record time?
We did have a 3 year old boy who completed the first and second parts of our basic course in 8 sessions. While this is not typical, it is possible.
5) How quickly can grown ups learn how to swim?
As with children, it depends on each person’s specific objectives and needs. Learning proper technique can be accomplished in a few sessions, while dealing with water fear can take a little bit of extra time.
6) Do we have to fill out registration forms before getting started?
Yes, feel free to download the registration forms and bring them filled out to your first session.
7) Where are the classes held?
Most classes are held in our private pool in the heart of Weston, Florida. Give us a call for details and directions once your first session has been booked.
8) Do you offer classes at the student’s home?
Yes, classes at your home are available from November through the end of March at heated pools within the Weston-Davie area. Limited openings are available.
